THE OBJECTIVE
Defeat your opponents by battling and winning all of their cards.
THE DECK
There are 10 different cards ranked in order of belt color, [1] being the lowest. The [Sensei] card is the highest (15 pts). The three different [FACE-OFF] cards are worth zero (0) points.
THE PLAY
The dealer shuffles and deals out all cards, one at a time, face down. Each player places their stack face down in front of them. Play begins when the dealer says, “Emojo GO!” and all players BATTLE by turning up their top card at the same time. The player with the highest card wins all the cards in play and places them face down on the bottom of their stack. Once the cards are cleared from a BATTLE, players flip the top card from their pile to start the next BATTLE. Play continues in this manner until there is a TIE, or a FACE-OFF card appears (more on this under “FACE-OFF CARDS” section).
BATTLE
A next-level BATTLE begins when two or more cards are the same rank. The players with matching cards place three additional cards face down in front of them and choose ANY ONE card to turn up. The highest card turned up wins all the BATTLE cards and places the winnings face down on the bottom of their stack. If the turned-up cards are again the same rank, each player continues in a next-level BATTLE by placing three more cards and choosing ANY ONE of those to flip over. The player with the highest card takes all the BATTLE cards. Cards that are not in the BATTLE are KNOCKED OUT and go to the winner. Every level of BATTLE follows the same rules.
FACE-OFF CARDS
[FACE-OFF] card: This card BATTLES only with the highest card or highest pair of cards. KNOCKED OUT cards go to the winner.
[TAG-TEAM] card:
Each player in this FACE-OFF BATTLE flips the top three cards face UP and adds their total point value to determine the winner. [Sensei] are worth 15 points. [FACE-OFF] cards are worth zero (0) points and do NOT cause additional BATTLES. Only points count. The highest point total wins the hand. An additional BATTLE is needed only if the total values are a tie.
[ROUNDHOUSE] card:
Each player in this FACE-OFF BATTLE takes the top three cards from their stack and passes them to the player on the right who is not KNOCKED OUT. These become their new BATTLE cards for that hand. If less than three cards are left, trade the lowest amount.
*NOTE: If multiple [FACE-OFF] cards are flipped up, perform ALL actions listed on the cards. You can ROUNDHOUSE & TAG-TEAM at the same time.
LOCO MOJO
All players BATTLE when two or more [FACE-OFF] cards of any kind are turned up. If LOCO MOJO happens in a next-level BATTLE, only the players still in (not KNOCKED OUT) keep BATTLING.
GO! LOW BATTLE
When two cards are the same rank but lower than the highest card played. Example: two [2]s, one [10], one [5]. The [2]s BATTLE and the highest card has the option to join in or TAP OUT and surrender. The winner takes all the cards, including the [10 & 5], if they choose to TAP OUT. This can happen at any BATTLE level.
DOUBLE TROUBLE (4 or more players)
Two separate BATTLES take place at the same time. Example: [FACE-OFF] vs [HIGHEST CARD] and [9] vs [9]. Each pair BATTLES separately and the winner receives ONLY the cards in their BATTLE. With five players, the winner of the highest-ranking BATTLE takes the non-battling card.
LUCKY STRIKE (3 or more players)
If ALL cards are in consecutive order, the LOWEST card wins. This can also happen at any next-level BATTLE with at least three BATTLE cards. Example:[7] [8] [9] [10]: [7] WINS
OUT OF CARDS
If a player runs out of cards during a BATTLE, they turn up their final card to see who wins. If the last card results in another BATTLE (or tie), the player who runs out of cards is eliminated.
ELIMINATION RULES
Once the first player runs out of cards, elimination rules begin. All BATTLE cards are removed from play if a [1] card is turned UP in that BATTLE. These cards are removed and set aside until the end of the game. Play continues until a second player is out, now All BATTLE cards are removed from play when a [1] or [2] card is turned UP. This continues with each player that is eliminated.
*NOTE: If the elimination card is face DOWN in the BATTLE, those cards are NOT eliminated and remain in play with the high card taking all the cards in the BATTLE.
WINNING THE GAME
The winner is the one who defeats all other players.
ADVANCED LEVEL OPTIONS
SENSEI RULES – Watch SENSEI RULES only Video.
THE DEAL: Each player receives one [Sensei] Card at the beginning and places it face UP next to them. The remaining [Sensei] are shuffled into the deck. [Sensei] is the highest ranking card and has three different powers. It’s more fun if you say, “Sensei Say” when using it. ANY player can play one and ONLY one [Sensei] each hand. Multiple players can play one each hand.
1) When a player is KNOCKED OUT, a [Sensei] can immediately be placed in the BATTLE to stay in and advance to the next-level.
2) When a player LOSES a BATTLE, they can immediately choose to play a [Sensei] to challenge the winner to a ONE-MORE-CARD BATTLE by placing the [Sensei] in the BATTLE. Players flip the top card on their pile, highest card wins all. Another player can choose to risk their [Sensei] for an additional challenge. It may also result in another BATTLE.
3) Before beginning any turn, a player may use a [Sensei] to CHALLENGE any player to a “1 on 1” BATTLE, winner takes all.
When a player takes the final cards of another, they immediately collect that player’s [Sensei] cards.
The [Sensei] cards that are won in any BATTLE can be pulled out and placed on your pile of [Sensei] OR put back in the bottom of your stack to be used as the high card.
NOTE: No Two games are alike. There are way too many combinations to list in these instructions. Use “House Rules” if you are not sure. Contact us on Social Media and let us know the crazy scenarios you run into.
